Not Giving A Fuck

Lyman Reed

I’m watching Mark Manson’s video summary of his bestselling book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck”. I’d forgotten what a great a book it is.

(BTW, the last word in the title of the book is “Fuck”, in case you hadn’t figured that out.)

The art that Manson is talking about isn’t about not caring about anything – but learning to give a fuck about only those things that are important to *you*.

I tend to be blustery about not giving a fuck about things, but I’m usually bullshitting. There are so many things in my life that I give a fuck about, not the least of which is what people think about my blogging here – both my writing skill and my subject matter.

Here’s what I’d like to give a fuck about:

  1. Sharing what’s helped me in the hopes that it helps others.
  2. Sharing what hasn’t helped me (specifically, the quagmire of bullshit that is the self-help/personal development industry) in order to provide some balance.
  3. Sharing general ideas that seem interesting and may provide value to the world,
  4. Being able to spend as much time as possible doing these things, which means, in the capitalist society that I live in, means making money at it.

But… with all of my mental energy being put towards giving a fuck about unimportant bullshit, there is very little left to devote to these (and other) things that I value.

This is where I write about how much I suck because this is my first post in nearly a month.

And this is where I write about my plan.

I give a fuck about action. I give a fuck about the value of my time. I give a fuck about Amor Fati and loving the fact that I’ve misdirected my values all of these years. Everything that has happened to me or because of me has brought me to this moment.

I give a fuck about being 100% responsible for my life in this moment.

Here’s a link to buy Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. That’s an affiliate link, which means that I make a couple of cents if you buy the book through this site. I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t love it.
