A Word A Day

Last time, I wrote about creating and deleting, creating and deleting.

Nothing wrong with that.

I don’t want to do that anymore.

I’m thinking – one thing that may help me with this is consistency.

When I said that “I look back and realize I’ve written some really stupid shit” what I really meant was “I look back and realize that I’ve written some stuff that is embarrassing or that I think others that I care about or interact with won’t agree with or is just plain bad writing” (not that I haven’t written some embarrassing shit badly).

I’m haunted by what others think of me. I worry about what you think of me because of me worrying about what you think of me.

Nothing wrong with that.

I don’t want to do that anymore.

I think that some consistency, a habit of writing and publishing, will help with that. I’m going to work on it using the Mini Habits and Tiny Habits methods (those are affiliate links to Amazon (which is another affiliate link)).

The two methods are similar but not exactly the same. I started off with Mini Habits – it helped me immensely, especially in the area of meditation. Tiny Habits added some nuance, explained some theory, and taught me to celebrate my victories.

My mini/tiny habit is: write one word intended for publication a day. The word itself doesn’t have to be published, but it must be intended to be, probably as part of a bigger piece.

And when I “don’t wanna” or “can’t”, time to use ACT to defuse from those thoughts. (as an aside, my favorite ACT book is “The Happiness Trap” by Russ Harris (al) – I can’t recommend it enough. Saved my life.)

That’s it. My intention when I sat down was to write one word. Amazing what can happen, huh?

Fist Pump.

And I’m done for the day, if I want to be.
