Reduce Distractions Using Full Screen Mode in Firefox and WordPress

July 21st, 2008 by Lyman

If you’re anything like me, blogging can sometimes be difficult because of all of the distractions out there on this wonderful thing we call the web.  Trying to focus on just writing while maintaining connectivity can sometimes be difficult (official understatement of the year right there.)

Two things help me stay focused on writing rather than the constant barrage of emails, tweets, and pokes that come my way.

The first is full screen mode in Firefox.  To activate this, you can just hit F11 while Firefox is the active window.  This will change your screen from this:

Firefox prior to Full Screen Mode

to this:

Firefox in Full Screen Mode

This alone will help to keep you focused on what you are doing in WordPress.

But what about comments, and pings, and man oh man I really need to update that plugin now!

If you use the Visual Editor in WordPress, you can use Full Screen mode there as well.

Just find and click this button:

Which will finally bring you to this:

WordPress in Full Scree Mode

Now, all I have in front of me is what I’m writing, and I didn’t have to go through and close all of my programs and toolbars.

Pretty neat, huh?

Those are great suggestions. It seem to take me forever to write a post and I think this may help. It may help compensate for my lack of typing skills.

I’m glad you liked them, James. I hope they do help you with your writing. :)
