Copy Plain Text With Firefox 3

June 18th, 2008 by User ImageLyman

One of my favorite Firefox Add-ons was Copy Plain Text - it gives one the option to copy from a web page sans formatting… very useful when copying into an application (like Evernote or the Wordpress Visual Editor) which includes the formatting.

Unfortunately, the add-on hasn’t been updated for Firefox 3, so I’ve been living without it for a while - copying from webpage to NoteTab Pro then back into the target application.  Ugly, time consuming, and annoying.

Today I finally got tired enough of it and found Extended Copy Menu.

Happiness Abounds! :)

Extended Copy Menu adds two new items to your context (right-click) menu - Copy as HTML and Copy as Plain Text - exactly what I needed (and what I’m sure many do as well.)

There’s even an Internet Explorer plugin available for those who want it.

Big thanks to the developer!

I was in the same boat, so thanks very much for finding and sharing the new add-on.

Too cool! I didn’t even know that 3 was out till I came here. I lost a couple of plugins too :( I am really going to miss my Sirius plug in. I hope it eventually updates to keep up with the times!

I did recently find a really cool Firefox Add-on. I took a giant jump and moved all my mail from outlook into Gmail (THAT was quite an endeavor!). Outlook kept doing funky stuff and I really wanted to be able to access my mail from where ever I was no matter if I could remote access my machine at work.

Get Things Done for Gmail http://www.gtdgmail.com
GTDInbox is an addon for Firefox that transforms Gmail into a powerhouse of productivity and manageability.

It really lets you get control of your inbox and tag things that need to be done. When you are done, click the Finish label and it archives it away for you. Install was kind of confusing because it doesn’t play nice with the Better Gmail add ons. Once I removed Better Gmail, GTD worked like a charm!

Thanks for the tip, Vickie! I’ve installed it, and am going to tackle learning how to actually use it now.

I’ve been using FF3 since the beta 3 or 4, so I’ve been going without some of my favorite add-ons for a while now. It’s really nice to have my browser back the way I like it.

Thanks for swinging by… it’s great to hear (read?) from you. :)

Big thanks for finding this plugin. I didn’t realize how much I copied plain text until it was gone.
